Cleveland, OhioLike most thriving rap groups, Cleveland, Ohio's hottest hip-hop duo, 216, as in the local area code, earned their stripes the hard way. Profound life experiences, steadfast determination and an undying commitment to preserve hip-hop sound and culture all of those tenets resonating loud and clear within their music. One listen to any of the 18-tracks on their Universal Records debut album, The Game Is Life, and it's obvious the album is crafted with the spirit and genius of two undeniably talented, innovative MC's embodying a brand new Cleveland sound.
With the help of divine intervention and six degrees of separation, Train and Beaz, collectively known as 216, came together in 1997. The aspiring rappers were introduced to one another by Beaz's cousin, a quick collaboration on an independent record followed, with the duo forming 216 soon after. It may seem surprising that these certified Ohio players should come together in such a seemingly effortless way, but given each of their refined rap skills, they developed an instant mutual respect for one another. "The first time we met, it was a little bit of an adjustment coming from different corners but we got acquainted through the music," says Beaz, reminiscing about their first studio session. A collection of on-going projects instantly ensued and 216 officially became a new rap force to be reckoned with.
