American Nightmare

Boston, Massachusetts

Originally called American Nightmare in 1998, the band released its first demo tape in 2000. Founding members, Wes Eisold & Tim Cossar followed up with a self-titled 7” debut release on Bridge 9 Records. The second 7” release titled "The Sun Isn’t Getting Any Brighter," would later be combined with the first 7” to form the LP, "Year One." The band released its full-length debut through Equal Visions in 2001 entitled "Background Music."

Shortly after its acclaimed release, American Nightmare found itself in a legal battle with a similarly-titled band. The Misfits cover band from Philadelphia kept the name and American Nightmare changed its name, first to the initials A.N., then again to American Nothing. Finally the band settled on the name Give Up The Ghost. The band broke up shortly after their second and final full-length release, "We’re Down 'Til Were Underground." The album saw the band experimenting and moving away from the typical and traditional hardcore/punk sound. A statement concerning the break up was released claiming “health & personal reasons.”
