And The Relatives

Nashville, Tennessee

And the Relatives began in 2006 in a Nashville-based efficiency apartment, when grade-school pals and devoted audiophiles Andrew Brassell (guitar, vocals) and Patrick Rodgers (drums) began fleshing out Brassell's idiosyncratic pop tunes into brief, explosive indie-rock numbers. Shortly thereafter, session-player-by-day Eli Beaird (bass) joined ATR, and the trio spent the ensuing months honing their sound in basements, dives and clubs throughout Middle Tennessee. They soon released two EPs, TALKING TO MY FINGERS and ANIMALS, the latter of which fetched comparisons to Pavement, Television and The Black Keys. Since then, the three-piece has played countless shows, including sets at CMJ and Next Big Nashville, and they’ve been featured in the popular LAKE FEVER SESSIONS and American Songwriter’s "DEATHBED" series and named one of Spin Magazine Online’s EIGHT UNDISCOVERED BANDS WORTH A LISTEN. Over the course of 2009 and 2010, And the Relatives recorded their debut LP Green Machinery — their most thoughtful and intricate effort to date — in Beaird's home studio, Eastwood Salon. The record, which has already earned ATR comparisons to The Walkmen, Guided by Voices and Spoon.
