The Norwegian Celtic Punk band Greenland Whalefishers (est. 1994) has spent more than 16 years on the road which has resulted in 4 singles, 2 EPs, 6 full-length albums and a number of split-releases, touring Japan, USA, England, Italy, Norway, Poland, Czeck Rep. etc, has placed Greenland Whalefishers from Norway among Europe’s leading Paddy Punk bands. The band is inspired by irish folk-rock and punk from the seventies, and they are influenced by other artists like Ramones, The Pogues, Thin Lizzy, Mötorhead a.o. Greenland Whalefishers are often compared with Shane MacGowan and The Pogues and often described as aThe Pogues turned up to eleven on speed, volume and power. The singer of Greenland Whalefishers has a very similar voice to Shane MAcGowan and people often mistakes Greenland Whalefishers for the Pogues. Shane MacGowan said in a radio interview that he had heard Greenland Whalefishers on the radio and believed it was The Pogues. The band has just released their 6th full length album ” SONGS FROM the BUNKER “.
