Jazzyfatnastees

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Jazzyfatnastees are an alt/soul/pop singer/songwriter duo. Our stuff is an eclectic mix of music influenced by everything we've ever listened to and loved. We started out as a quartet in 1992 and by 1998 had dwindled down to, or honed in on, the essence of the Jazzees, depending on who you talk to. Though we signed our first deal in 1993 with Fathouse/Tommy Boy Records that album was never released. Our first official release was "The Once and Future" (1999) on Motive/MCA Records. We knew we'd never get anywhere at MCA, so after much hooping and hollering on our part we were released and went on to record our next album, "The Tortoise and the Hare" (2002), on our own imprint Coolhunter, distributed through Rykodisc. We decided to try the minor/major route again and signed with now defunct S-Curve Records in 2003 but the label head jumped ship and headed off the become VP of another label thus we were left label-less. Now we're in possesion of our basically complete third album but, thus far, it has no home. We gave it away for a hot second then retired it to possibly sign with another small/big label that offered some angle but no dough. Plus, they were really only interested in half the album.

Did we mention we cover quite a bit of ground in our ten song CD's? You can listen to the first song and not imagine where you'll end up at the end. Some people like that, some find it confusing. We'll post some stuff on this site, you be the judge. Anyway, thats the brief synapsis of the long history of Jazzzyfatnastees. Of course there are plenty of details to be filled in, how we started in Los Angeles and wound up in Philly. How we started Black Lily: The Women in Music Series and where Black Lily is headed, where we're going musically, but, if we talked about everything now what would we blog about?
