Lee Silver Productions

Lee Silver, legendary record producer entered the music business as a songwriter and singer in New York, singing and producing his own demonstration records and presenting them to the leading record artists of that time. Lee’s first success as a songwriter was in 1951 with a song that he composed entitled “Fire”, which was recorded by Les Paul and Mary Ford for Capitol Records.

Lee has the ability to recognize the potential talent in the artists he works with, some of the more recognized are The Royal Teens (Bob Gaudio, who founded the Four Seasons), Herb Alpert (of The Tijuana Brass and co-founder of A & M Records), and Bobby Hart (who wrote and produced the Monkees). Lee has produced all of the recordings in his catalogue, including the hits “Short Shorts”, “Baby Talk”, “To Be Loved” and many others.

Lee signed a group, The Royal Teens to his own label, Power Records, and produced their first hit record, “Short Shorts” which was then leased to ABC Paramount Record Company. This record sold over one million copies. Lee continued as the Royal Teens producer until their contract expired with ABC. He then placed them on Capitol Records, where he produced another one of their chart records, “Believe Me”, which went to Number 20 on the Billboard charts.

In the early 1960’s in California, Lee received a call from Herb Alpert, who was looking for material for a group he was producing, called Jan and Dean. Lee had acquired for his publishing company, the song “Baby Talk”. Herb recorded the song with Jan and Dean and it sold over one million copies. It was at that time that Herb and Lee became very well acquainted and decided to form Lash Records. Lee and Herb had several releases on Lash Records. Later, Herb established another label, A&M Records, which in its day, was one of the major independent companies. In 1962, Lee signed the group, The Pentagons, and produced their rhythm and blues hit, “To Be Loved”. Lee also produced and worked with legendary rockabilly artist Jody Reynolds (“Endless Sleep”).

Lee remained in California and it was there that he discovered, produced and managed the young writer, Bobby Hartman who changed his last name to Hart (Bobby Hart wrote all of the Monkees’ TV show hits and wrote with his co-partner, Tommy Boyce, of the famed song writing team Boyce and Hart).

In the 1950’s Lee decided to form his own publishing company, Brunswick Music Publishing. Brunswick Music Publishing was to become the vehicle which Lee was to use for his many musical endeavors. In addition, Lee controls other publishing companies under the Brunswick banner, such as Admiration Music, Gele Music, Marble Music, and Labell Music, which control is in excess of several hundred active copyrights. Currently, his publishing company, Brunswick Music Publishing is very active in the placing of music in movies, television and cable including the usage of his record masters he produced and owns.
