The Lives of Famous Men
Anchorage, AlaskaThe Lives of Famous Men is soulful indie rock built on the fundamentals of the ever-changing pop genre. The five, singer Daniel Hall, guitarist Ari Katcher, drummer Dylan Mandel, bassist Andrew Totemoff, and keyboardist Jason Wahto, boast not only a wealth of eclectic studio material, but more importantly an energetic and interactive live show that engages and captivates crowds. Whether playing an unadorned club in their home town of Anchorage, Alaska or the Knitting Factory in New York, each night they leave their audience stomping and clapping along, singing, “I just want some of that sun.”
In March of 2007, The Lives of Famous Men recorded their debut EP Rehearsal and instantly garnered recognition as a featured band in Alternative Press Magazine. That summer, they embarked on their first national tour supporting Youinseries and National Product, followed by a brief run with Shiny Toy Guns. At the same time, their video for the song You’re Everyone I Know Right Now was first airing on MTVU. In November, they traveled to St. Cloud, Florida to record their follow-up EP Modern Love, The Wooden Vehicle with producer James Paul Wisner (Dashboard Confessional, Paramore). Modern Love, The Wooden Vehicle showcases not only musical growth with sounds ranging from jazz to Motown to flamenco to modern pop, but also James Paul Wisner’s masterful engineering. A short time after it’s release, Modern Love, The Wooden Vehicle had already created a strong buzz among online publications such as absolutepunk.net, and debuted as one of the top 5 best selling albums on smartpunk.com.
The Lives of Famous Men began 2008 with five dates at the SXSW Music Festival and a spot on the MTVU Campus Invasion Tour with Wyclef Jean, Cobra Starship, All Time Low, and The Spill Canvas. While on Campus Invasion, they hosted an episode of MTVU’s The Dean’s List, which aired in June. They brought on a new team: manager Andrew McInnes (The White Tie Affair), lawyer Mike McKoy (Fallout Boy, Cartel), and booking agent Eva Alexiou-Reo of Fata Booking (Mae, As Cities Burn), and toured throughout the summer and fall alongside Motion City Soundtrack, Ivoryline, There For Tomorrow, A Cursive Memory, and A Rocket to the Moon. In December, they recorded the song Sunshine, already a staple of their live set, with producer Casey Bates (Forgive Durden, Portugal. The Man) in Seattle, Washington. They released Sunshine as a digital single and were handpicked as one of Purevolume’s Top 21 Unsigned Artists of 2008.
In January, The Lives of Famous Men set off on their most recent tour cycle, co-headlining tours with Anarbor, The Dangerous Summer, and Mansions. In March, they returned to SXSW and performed to an at-capacity Purevolume House. They are currently on tour with Weatherbox on their way to another studio session with James Paul Wisner in Florida. The Lives of Famous Men has already begun confirming the first of their dates on the Warped Tour and continue to cross and re-cross the country almost non-stop in an effort to reach as many listeners as possible.
