Ugress
Bergen, NorwayI am a composer, musician, mad professor, evil genius, label mogul, multimedia-fanatic, artificial intelligence visualist, anti-DRM advocate, pro-creative-commons and only my expert skills in procrastinating is keeping me from total world domination. Also I have no idea what all that means but it sounds impressive.
Maybe you heard some of my music in a film or commercial or TV program, and you had no idea, my work is is often licensed to accompany moving images.
My main project is Ugress, and I also do film music and production work. I run my own label Uncanny Planet, a place for all of my projects and ideas to be realized. You can check out my projects via links in the left menu.
I am a child of the 80ies, I started out making music on the Commodore 64, and continued up along the typical tracker route of C64, Amiga, PC and then Mac sequencers. I had a breakthru with the Ugress debut album "Resound" in 2002. When I'm not touring or travelling the world I am located in Bergen, Norway where I spend my time in the Uncanny Laboratory studio.
I find the current paradigm shift in music exceptionally interesting, I am a strong and outspoken opponent of DRM. I am very intrigued by sampling and all of its cultural aspects - since deep down everything is sampling - and I have an uncanny faith in technology and the possibilties within. I am not fond of piracy, but I do have a realistic sense, I see how the world works and why it happens. I am dedicated to working WITH technology, not against it, finding a model that works for everyone and makes piracy irrelevant and unnecessary.
